Volkswagen unveils the brand-new 2025 Volkswagen ID.7

The brand-new 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 was introduced to the market this week as the latest fully electric vehicle from Volkswagen. About the size of the former Volkswagen Passat, the new Volkswagen ID.7 will be a luxurious and refined midsize electric sedan that will join the current Volkswagen ID.4 in the VW electric vehicle lineup next year. Focused on providing a near-perfect blend of agility, sportiness, performance, and advanced electric efficiency, the new ID.7 will have a lot to offer consumers looking for their next EV or buyers who want refinement and performance without compromise as they make the move towards electric. Let's take a look at what stands out with the brand-new 2025 Volkswagen ID.7.

Style and function

The first thing we notice about the new ID.7 is how closely it resembles the ID.Aero concept which was introduced last year. Featuring an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.23, the ID.7 is one of the most aerodynamic sedans on the market today. It is also built for functionality with a rear liftgate which will open to a massive cargo area that young families and active buyers will appreciate.

Inside, we find a large 15-inch centre display and refined digital instrument cluster comprised of a narrow display that is, in fact, a continuation of the entire dashboard trim. The interior compartment is both elegant and subtle, and just from the pictures, we can tell this will be a very welcoming environment to spend long hours on the road.

The cabin has a very airy feel which can be further enhanced with the large panoramic glass roof which can switch from opaque to transparent depending on how much light you want inside. There's also an advanced air vent system which uses electric motors to better distribute warm and cool airflow across the cabin to ensure optimal comfort.

Range and performance

The 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 will use many elements we have already seen on the Volkswagen ID.4, starting with the 77-kWh battery pack which will be standard. Although the ID.7 will be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, Volkswagen hasn't confirmed which versions will come to Canada. VW also said a larger 86-kWh battery could join the lineup at a later date and provide even more range and performance.

Still, the base model ID.7 with the 77-kWh battery will provide approximately 600 km of range under WLTP standards. The EPA range numbers haven't been confirmed yet, but based on what we know so far, they should exceed 500 km. Like the current Volkswagen ID.4, the new Volkswagen ID.7 will likely feature multiple versions with different range levels.

We don't have the full details on the overall performance of the ID.7, but we do know that rear-wheel-drive versions with a single motor powering the rear axle will deliver 282 hp. The addition of another electric motor on the front axle in all-wheel-drive variants should increase the power significantly. In the Volkswagen ID.4, RWD models generate 201 hp while AWD models offer 295 hp. That means we can realistically expect an all-wheel-drive ID.7 to generate over 375 hp. Still, Volkswagen says the RWD ID.7 will reach 100 km/h in around 5.0 seconds, providing exceptional performance even in the base model.

As we get closer to the planned launch of the 2025 Volkswagen ID.7, we should know more about the performance, specs, and pricing. Still, the production model unveiled this week has us eagerly anticipating the arrival of this latest VW electric vehicle.
